Sun Shine - Glass Cleaner

Sun Shine is 100% ammonia free. Ammonia is what attacks the adhesive and the dye in window film, and what strips the anti-glare layer off a nav display. There's none of it in here, so Sun Shine is safe on tinted glass, factory or aftermarket, and safe on everything around the glass that catches the overspray: instrument panels, LCD screens, mirrors, vinyl windows and chrome.

It pulls smudges, fingerprints, bug residue and the yellow smoke film off in a single pass, and the formula leaves the surface resisting prints rather than collecting them. Clean glass that's still clean on the drive home.

About streaks. Nine times out of ten it's the water, not the cleaner. Sun Shine is a concentrate you mix yourself, so use distilled. Tap water carries minerals that dry right where you left them, and on dark glass in daylight that's exactly what you're looking at when you think you got a bad bottle.

Dilution Guide

16 oz. or gallon? Mixing takes $17.00 of concentrate down to $4.25 an ounce-for-ounce, and the gallon takes it to $1.22, about 71% less again. In working bottles, the 16 oz. fills two 32 oz. spray bottles and the gallon fills sixteen. Glass is on every single job, so this is one of the easier gallons to justify.

Getting it perfect

• Mix with distilled water. The difference over tap shows up immediately on dark glass.
• Work in the shade, on cool glass. Hot glass flashes the product before you've leveled it.
• Two towels, crossing directions. Clean with the first towel in one direction, left to right. Then take a second clean, dry towel and go the opposite way, up and down. The crossing pass picks up whatever the first one left, and if a streak does survive, the direction it's running tells you which pass to blame.
• Roll each window down a few inches and clean the top edge that normally hides inside the seal. That strip is what shows once the glass is back up.
• On the inside of the windshield, split it. Clean the passenger half from the passenger seat and the driver half from the driver's seat. Reaching across the car costs you the angle and the pressure, and the lower corners are where haze survives.
• Hard water spots won't clean off, they have to be polished off. Use Glass Polish Plus first, then Sun Shine.
