Wise Guy - Tire and Wheel Cleaner

BROWN TIRES AREN'T JUST DIRTY. THEY'RE GUNKED UP WITH OLD DRESSING.

That grey-brown film is three or four layers of dressing that never fully came off, oxidizing one on top of the next. Soap won't touch it. Neither will a stiff brush on its own. You have to strip it, and that's what Wise Guy is built for.

It's a non-acid, high-foaming cleaner that pulls accumulated dressing and road grime off rubber in a single pass. The foam is thick enough to hang on a vertical sidewall instead of running straight to the ground, which buys you the dwell time that does the actual work. Thirty to sixty seconds of contact beats scrubbing twice as long with something thinner.

On wheels, it clears the brake dust a weekly or every-other-week wash leaves behind. Worth knowing where the line is: Wise Guy handles what's sitting on the surface. Iron that has already embedded itself in the finish is Cool Guy's job, an acid-free iron remover that turns purple as it binds to the brake dust and lifts it back out. Run the two together and the wheels and tires both come out right.

Safe on

• Factory, painted, powder-coated and chrome wheels
• Tires, sidewalls and inner fender wells
• Non-acid formula, so it lifts rather than etches

Use something else on

• Anodized or polished aluminum: reach for Solution diluted 4:1 or Shine Soap instead
• Ceramic coated wheels: use Cool Guy, which is pH balanced and won't cut the life of the coating short

Strip the tire properly and the dressing you put on afterward lays flat, dark and even. Skip it and you're just adding another layer to the pile.

Dilution Guide

16 oz. or gallon? Mixing already halves what you paid. $26.00 of concentrate becomes $13.00 an ounce-for-ounce, and the gallon takes it to $2.63, about 80% less again. In working bottles: the 16 oz. fills one 32 oz. spray bottle, the gallon fills eight. If you clean wheels for a living, buy the gallon.

Directions:

1. Rinse wheels and tires thoroughly to remove loose dirt and cool the surface.
2. Dilute Wise Guy 1:1 with water. 16 oz. of each fills a 32 oz. spray bottle.
3. Spray liberally onto tires and wheels. Let the foam dwell 30 to 60 seconds, and don't let it dry on the surface.
4. Agitate the tires with a stiff tire scrub brush. Agitate wheels with a wheel brush, including barrels and lug pockets.
5. Rinse completely before moving to the next wheel.
6. Dry the tire, then apply Decked Out for the finished look.

Pro tip: keep going until the foam rinses white. Brown foam means there's still dressing in the rubber, and anything you put on top of it will go blotchy within a week.
